GIVING.

Employee Assistance Foundation

Our value-driven culture means we are here for each other in times of need. Established in 2005, the Dollar General Employee Assistance Foundation has provided support for team members experiencing a family crisis, suffering from the loss of a loved one, or home damage due to a natural disaster or fire. We come together, donate, and support our DG Team when they need it most.

SERVING OUR
COMMUNITIES

Dollar General is built on a mission of two simple but powerful words — Serving Others. This mission drives our operational strategies and is the heart of our commitment to being a purpose-driven company. Our charitable giving impacts more than two million individuals and families annually. We focus on addressing issues that help meet basic needs and help position individuals, families, and communities for future success.

  • Creating pathways of opportunity through literacy and education.

    The Dollar General Literacy Foundation

We believe literacy and education play an important role in increasing opportunities for social mobility, civic engagement and economic empowerment. Since its inception over 30 years ago, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has donated more than $257 million to adult, family and youth literacy programs to help students of all ages pursue their educational goals.

  • Increasing access to critical resources to provide hunger relief and support for children’s health.

    Hunger relief

We care about our customers and their families and believe everyone should have access to affordable, nutritious food. In 2024, DG donated more than $1.1 million to Feeding America and its affiliates. We also supported local food banks in over 5,200 communities through our food recovery efforts in our local stores and distribution centers resulting in:

    • More than 28.1 million pounds of food to Feeding America food banks
    • Over 22.4 million Meals
Since the launch of our food donation program in 2019, we have donated over 66 million pounds of food, equivalent to more than 51.3 million meals.

    Children’s health

We are proud to celebrate 19 years of partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which advances research, provides quality care and ensures that families of ill children never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food. Through our annual in-store Thanks and Giving® campaign and corporate donations, we have raised more than $3 million for the hospital’s life-saving work.

  • Helping protect the planet through sustainability efforts and disaster relief.

    Aiding sustainability

Sustainability drives us. Through our partnership with The Arbor Day Foundation, we have advanced reforestation efforts and created green spaces in urban areas. In 2022 alone, we planted 75,260 trees, restoring over 129 acres of green space.

    Disaster recovery

During times of natural disaster, we offer support through our longstanding partnership with the American Red Cross. In 2024, we provided in-kind and monetary donations totaling over $1.2 million to help the Red Cross provide essential aid to people in need across the country. Dollar General’s support and giving empowers the Red Cross to rapidly mobilize personnel and supplies to impacted areas.
